NOTES: For all the other types of Somerset Special Award, there are not forms available for use – instead, application is by letter to the Chairman of the Foundation.

For postgraduate students, the letter should include details of their education to date and any previous awards received. It should also explain how the particular postgraduate study will relate to their degree. If there are any unusual costs relating to the postgraduate year, e.g. compulsory travel abroad or research equipment, it is recommended that details of those are also mentioned in the letter. The monetary value of this type of Award is typically equivalent to one year of the Somerset Undergraduate Award. Please note that applicants must have previously attended one of the twelve maintained secondary schools in the London Borough of Haringey and be below the age of 25 years on the 1st September in the year of the relevant course of study.

For young sportsmen and women who are at county standard or higher, the letter should include details of their sporting achievements, e.g. ranking(s), times, etc. It must also be accompanied by a letter of support/verification from their coach/trainer.

For Musicians who are at conservatoire standard, a letter of support from their music tutor or the Haringey Music and Performing Arts Service should be provided.

All applicants should include their date of birth and be prepared to submit documentary evidence in support of all material facts stated in their application if asked to do so.
